I want a pair!

Rockin' a hundred years

Converse celebrate their centennial with music tributes and charity

The much loved, signature sneaker of the hipster overclass continues to be the ubiquitous black Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star high-top. Though launched in 1917 as a basketball boot, the distinctive footwear - while never making claims to comfort - became synonymous with rock'n'roll counterculture in the late '70s, being most strongly associated with first-generation New York punks The Ramones, and varying rock scenes in a fairly uninterrupted fashion ever since. More than 750 million pairs later - making it the most successful shoe ever sold - Chucks are still the go-to shoe for folks both young and, well, not quite as young.

Building on that traditional musical affinity are several new lines of Converse Chucks coinciding with the company's 100th anniversary, beginning with three different styles paying homage to The Grateful Dead. Three variations have the Grateful Dead Live (Skull and Roses) artwork, the Steal Your Face album logo and, of course, dancing bear prints. Black Sabbath get similar treatment with a trio of tribute issues, and Nirvana's Kurt Cobain, notably not a stranger to Converse himself (and probably singlehandedly responsible for their resurgent popularity in the early '90s), gets his own posthumous series. The so-called "Distressed" and "Tri-Stitch Scribbles" lines come in high-top and Cobain's preferred One Star styles, and feature just a simple discreet signature or artwork and lyrical scribbles from the dead rock star's notebooks. Wear and fray detailing is
added for that authentic "distressed" feel.

FYI~ The evil Nike empire bought Converse in 2003 :-(
I was a huge fan of Chuck Taylor's and was very upset when I heard that news. Why did it have to be Nike of all shoe companies to buy my beloved Converse's that I had been wearing ever since I was a little kid?!
Anyhoop~ proceed at your own risk.

PS~ I bought a pair of 'No Sweat' sneakers that resemble CT's in appearance. They are made w/o any sweat shop labour, hence the name. Unfortunately, they are nowhere near as comfortable as CT's, at least on my puppies.

    Where can you purchase?
Are they available at this time or in the future?

Cool, I tried to find them with no success. Just found the Kurt Cobain ones.
They have Blue Chucks with Red Laces, I bet they would be really cool with the SYF in place of the Star!!!!!!!

"Just found the Kurt Cobain ones."

I saw a description for those and it began with, "When Kurt Cobain shot himself he was wearing a pair of Converse One Stars....."

You just can't a better ringing endorsement than that!

shows the difference in generations and music styles i suppose...if the endorsement read "Gerry was wearing these when he died in rehab..." just not my idea of marketing appeal...

i wore those converses for yrs...before they were trendy..probably my defiance against Birkenstock's...saw alot of them tricked out cause of the fabric you could paint on them and the rubber you could ink out...i put one of those non metallic half dollar size steelies on mine right over the ankle logo....memories.....my first pair was like 8.00 bucks.
i wondered why they had changed over the last few yrs...referring to they buy out....like the rest of corporate america...don't get me started.

I also wore them for years, I still don't know how, they seem to have become so uncomfortable, when I'm on my feet so much, LOL, I guess the feet age as does the rest of us.

I wont get ya started Miss Gypsydaze The buy outs which equal the immanent lack of choice of not what but where and how we do things seems like a whirlpool at times. It makes it difficult to say the least to buck the Funky Funky System Now.!

I'll still get a pair just for S&G's

My response about the "ringing endorsement" was meant to be very tongue-in-cheek, but then again, I have a slightly twisted sense of humor....

yeah ellis, i was just being my twisted self too..
just hard to fathom buying shoes because someone died in them...so many other reasons, or maybe not...hmmmm
and yea as i get older the high tops just aren't as comfortable..no arch support...so a nod to birks for making a sandal that is comfortable...dancing barefoot is the preferred mode for me, but in a venue, aside from grass, just asking for a cut....

Despite Converse being bought by Nike, I will probably some day replace my old worn out HEMP CT's w/another pair. I like the mission statement of No Sweat shoes, but they're just not as comfortable as the CT's. Don't know how much more the SYF CT's are, but I did like my HEMP CT's.

It's the Little, things that are cool, and having a pair with the SYF on it would be cool.
I'm sure they would strike up a conversation or two when some of our tribe saw them.

          WOW...

it goes to show that most ppl could care less about what a meglo corp will do to them and others not to metion the enviroment and so forth. so long as one gets the product they desire they seem not to care how it came to be.....very sad indeed....

do some reading and see if you still want to support this corp ...

          www.google.com/search

it sooo sad that America is litterlly for sale to the highest bidding without anykind of regards to what it will produce for the future.
